Production of Cascade drinking water

Mechanical treatment of coarse particles is an important step in the drinking water production process as it helps to remove large particles from the water. These particles may include sand, silt, stones and other organic and inorganic materials that can be harmful when consumed.

This stage is one of the main stages in the process chain. These filters allow:

1. Remove organic compounds: Activated carbon is a highly porous material with a large surface area, making it an effective adsorbent for organic compounds such as pesticides, herbicides and industrial chemicals.
2. Remove taste and smell: Activated carbon can also remove compounds that contribute to an unpleasant taste and smell in drinking water. These include compounds such as geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB), which are produced by algae and can cause earthy or musty odours in water.
3. Remove particulates: The gravel layer in the column helps filter out large particles such as sand, silt and other sediments that can cause turbidity in the water.

This step is necessary because it helps to balance the mineral content of the water and ensure that it meets certain quality standards. Here are some reasons why this step is necessary:

1. Mineral content: Reverse osmosis water has a low mineral content due to the removal of dissolved salts and minerals. While this may be desirable for certain applications, it is not optimal for drinking water because minerals such as calcium and magnesium are important for human health. By mixing purified water with water that has undergone a reverse osmosis unit, the mineral content can be balanced so that the water is safe and healthy to drink.
2. pH balance: Reverse osmosis water can also have low pH levels due to the removal of bicarbonates and carbonates. This can cause the water to become acidic and potentially corrosive to the equipment. By mixing treated water with reverse osmosis water, the pH can be balanced so that the water is not an irritant to the body’s mucous membranes.
3. Quality standards: Drinking water must meet certain quality standards set by the regulatory authorities. By mixing purified water with reverse osmosis water, the quality of the water can be monitored and regulated to ensure that it meets these standards.
4. Taste: Mixing purified water with reverse osmosis water can also improve the taste of the water by balancing the mineral and pH content.
